Senior News 5/6
The first week of Term 3 has been a very busy one for the senior students. We are finishing our unit on subtraction and the different strategies we can use to solve subtraction problems. Next we will be working on multiplication, so this is a good time to be practising automatic recall of the multiplication facts up to 10 x 10. Knowing times tables facts well is a very useful skill in many areas of maths! We are working on building our reading stamina, by reading without interruption for up to 30 minutes at a time. Please help your child continue with this at home, and sign their reading diary each week before they bring it in to be checked by their teacher. We are continuing our work on information reports, and will soon begin working on explanation reports, which ties in with this term's Integrated Studies topic The Journey to Discovery.
We are looking forward to engaging in many science experiments relating to light, electrical circuits and the changing states of matter throughout this term. The students had fun recognising and roleplaying different emotions as we worked on our social skills, while many of the Grade 6 students celebrated reconciliation in preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation, which sadly has had to be postponed.
The children are to be commended for their focused and reverent attitude during our final preparations for this sacrament and we look forward to celebrating it as soon as we are able to.
